Mothers, displaced by floods, feeding their children at a relief center in Sunsari district. Till 8 September, ACT/LWF Nepal distributed food items to 3,583 people (1, 957 females and 1,626 males) who are taking shelter at Jamiya Islamiya Madrasa. The organization has also made arrangements to distribute fortified food for children and supplementary food for lactating mothers.

Mothers collecting food items near a relief camp in Sunsari district. According to Nepal Red Cross Society, altogether 26 temporary shelter camps have been established at various locations in the district. An estimated 17,135 affected people of 2,524 families are taking shelters in these camps. Around 8,698 males and 8,437 females, including 6,867 children, under the age of 14, are staying here.

One of the flash points where an embankment of the Koshi River was breached on 18 August 2008, unleashing devastating flood and human suffering. More than 60,000 people are estimated to have been displaced by the flood in Sunsari district.
